The 12 Days Kilimanjaro Safari and Zanzibar tour package is an extensive adventure tour that offers a combination of experiences. Following the successful summit of Kilimanjaro, tourists then proceed to explore the African savannah on a 3 days safari in Serengeti and Ngorongoro. The Serengeti National Park is renowned for its diverse wildlife population, including the “Big Five” – lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffalos. Ngorongoro Conservation Area is home to the famous Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. Here visitors can observe various species in their natural habitat.

Located off the coast of Tanzania in the Indian Ocean, Zanzibar is known for its beautiful beaches and rich history as a former trading hub for spices and slaves. Visitors can enjoy various activities such as snorkeling or diving to explore the underwater world teeming with marine life or visiting historical sites like Stone Town and Prison Island.
Itinerary for 12 Days Kilimanjaro Zanzibar and Safari tour
Day 0 : Arrival at (Kilimanjaro International Airport)
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport,travelers will be met by a representative from Africalife tour and transferred to your accommodations in Moshi.This may be a budget-friendly hotel or lodge, at your Moshi hotel. You should be planning to arrive atleast one day before the start of the your tour.Today we will spend in having briefing about your whole safari adventure icluding pre-trek briefing of 6 days machame climbing.We will also review your equipment and rent any equipment which is needed.
Day 1 : Machame gate to Machame Camp
Drive from Moshi to Machame Gate takes about 45 minutes. The journey passes through the village of Machame which is located on the lower slopes of the mountain. We depart the park gate and walk through the rain forest on a winding trail up a ridge. At lower elevations the trail can be muddy and slippery. Gaiters and trekking poles are a good idea here. We continue a short distance until we reach the Machame Camp. Elevation: 1830m/6000ft to 3050m/9950ft Distance: 11km/7mi Hiking Time: 5-6 hours Habitat: Montane Forest Meals: Lunch and Dinner
Day 2 : Machame Camp to Shira Camp
After breakfast we leave the glades of the rain forest and continue on an ascending path, crossing the valley along a steep rocky ridge. The route now turns west onto a river gorge until we arrive at the Shira campsite. Elevation: 3050m/9950ft to 3850m/12,600ft Distance: 5km/3mi Walking Time: 4-5 hours Habitat: Moorland Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Day 3 : Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
From the Shira Plateau we continue to the east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo. As we continue, our direction changes to the South East towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth” (elev 4650m/15,250ft). Shortly after the tower we come to the second junction which goes to the Arrow Glacier. We now continue down to the Barranco Camp. Although you end the day around the same elevation as when you began, this day is very important for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day. Elevation: 3850m/12,600ft to 4000m/13,000ft Distance: 10km/6mi Walking Time: 5-6 hours Habitat: Semi-desert Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 4 : Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge up the Barranco Wall (elev 4250m/13,900ft), through the Karanga Valley (elev 4050m/13,250ft) to the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. We continue up to the Barafu Camp. You have completed the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Here we make camp with views of the summit in the distance. Elevation: 4000m/13,000ft to 4700m/15,350ft Distance: 9km/6mi Hiking Time: 6-8 hours Habitat: Alpine Desert Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner .
Day 5 : Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp
Very early in the morning (midnight to 2 am), we continue our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. At Stella Point you will stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see. Faster hikers may view the sunrise from the summit.
From Stella Point, you may encounter snow all the way on your 1-hour ascent to the summit. Once at Uhuru Peak you have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa! From the summit we begin our descent by continuing straight down to the Mweka Camp, stopping at Barafu for lunch. You may want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down. We arrive at Mweka Camp and enjoy our last evening on the mountain. Elevation: 4700m/15,350ft to 5895m/19,340ft Down to 3090m/10,150ft Distance: 5km/3mi up / 13km/8mi down Hiking Time: 5-7 hours up / 5-6 hours down Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Day 6 : Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Hotel
After breakfast we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy).Monkey Adventures vehicle will be waiting for you at Mweka gate to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi (around 60 minutes). Day 7 : Arusha-central serengeti
The first day of your Tanzanian safari itinerary begins with travel from Arusha to Central Serengeti. This journey covers approximately 140 kilometers (87 miles) and takes around 3-4 hours, depending on road conditions and traffic. Once you arrive in Central Serengeti, you will spend the afternoon exploring this expansive national park through game drives. Central Serengeti is renowned for its diverse wildlife population, including the Big Five (lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos, and buffalos), as well as various antelope species and numerous bird species.
Day 8 : Central Serengeti-Ngorongoro/Karatu
On the second day of your itinerary, you will embark on morning game drives in Central Serengeti before transferring to Ngorongoro/Karatu. The distance between Central Serengeti and Ngorongoro/Karatu is roughly 120 kilometers (75 miles), which takes about 3 hours to cover by vehicle. Ngorongoro Crater is a popular tourist destination due to its unique ecosystem and high concentration of wildlife. The crater’s floor covers an area of approximately 260 square kilometers (100 square miles) and is home to a wide variety of animals such as wildebeest, zebras, hippos, lions, hyenas, elephants, and many more species.
Day 9 : Day trip to Ngorongoro conservation area
Your third day in Tanzania involves a tour of Ngorongoro Crater that lasts for about 5 hours. This extensive tour allows ample time to explore the crater’s diverse habitats and observe the abundant wildlife that resides there. The crater’s steep walls create a microclimate that supports various vegetation zones, providing food sources for numerous animal species throughout the year. Additionally, the caldera lake at the crater’s center attracts various waterbirds and hippos.
Upon arrival at Ngorongoro Crater, spend the morning exploring this UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its stunning wildlife including lions, elephants, zebras, and rhinos. Enjoy a game drive in the crater, which is home to a high concentration of wildlife due to its unique ecosystem.After lunch, depart from Ngorongoro back to Arusha in the afternoon. Depending on your flight schedule to Zanzibar, head directly to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward journey. The airport is approximately 46 kilometers from Arusha and it takes about an hour to reach there.
Day 10: Zanzibar
Upon arrival at Zanzibar International Airport, you will be greeted by a representative and transferred to your accommodation in Stone Town. After settling in, you will embark on an evening tour of this historic city. Stone Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its unique architecture, bustling markets, and rich cultural heritage. You will visit the House of Wonders, the Old Fort, and the Slave Market. .
Day 11 : Full day in safari blu trip
The Full Day Safari Blue Trip is an essential experience for any visitor to Zanzibar. This excursion takes you to Menai Bay, where you will spend the day snorkeling in crystal-clear waters teeming with marine life. You will also visit the Mangapwani Slave Caves and enjoy a traditional Swahili lunch on the beach. .
Day 12 : spice tour-departure
On your third day, you will explore the Spice Farms of Zanzibar. These farms are renowned for their production of various spices such as cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla. During your tour, you will learn about the history of spice trade in Zanzibar and get to sample various spices and their derivatives. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Zanzibar International Airport for your departure flight.
