Umbwe route Kilimanjaro climbing tour

The Umbwe Route on Mount Kilimanjaro is renowned for its challenging and direct ascent to the summit, making it one of the steeper and more demanding trails on the mountain. Covering a distance of approximately 53 kilometers (33 miles), the route takes trekkers through dense and lush rainforests before ascending to higher altitudes. As climbers make their way up, the altitude gradually increases, presenting a demanding physical challenge and requiring acclimatization to the changing atmospheric conditions. The elevation gain is significant, with trekkers reaching an impressive 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) at the summit, Uhuru Peak.

One of the notable features of the Umbwe Route is its spectacular scenery. Trekkers are treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes, including lush rainforests, expansive moorlands, and the surreal lunar-like landscapes of the alpine desert as they ascend. The route also offers panoramic vistas of glaciers and icefields on the upper reaches of Kilimanjaro. Weather conditions can vary widely along the route, from the warmer and more humid climate of the rainforest to the freezing temperatures experienced at the summit. The best time to embark on the Umbwe Route is during the dry seasons of January to March and June to October, ensuring better trekking conditions and increased chances of a successful summit bid.
